Advent Festival

The Advent Festival incorporates all the wonderful Advent activities in an event that brings together our whole church, all its members, friends and the community to prepare for Jesus' birthday. This year's Advent Festival will be Saturday, December 6, 2008. Church of the Saviour invites the community to join us for the Hanging of the Greens, Breakfast, Shopping, Giftwrapping, Craft Workshops, and a Cookie Walk to raise funds for the Baby Fold Orphanage in Zimbabwe.

The Advent Festival features the Alternative Gift Market and 10,000 Villages. Alternative Gift Market offers a long list of choices including food, clothing, shelter, educational and medical supplies for needy people of the world. Purchasers receive an engraved card to give their loved ones announcing that the gift has been purchased in their honor. 10,000 Villages offers handmade crafts with all proceeds going back to the third world artisans who make the bowls, jewelry, bags, rugs, etc.

Admission is a bag of canned or boxed food for the Cory Hunger Center in Cleveland. Activities include the sale of Free Trade coffee (by the cup or bag), fresh hot donuts, homemade Christmas cookies and fresh evergreens plus a holiday craft workshop for kids, a children's book sale, holiday music, gift wrapping, and Birthday Party for Jesus.

The Advent Festival benefits local community projects, third world artisans, and provides relief and development gifts such as trees, livestock, food and medicine for the world's poor and for environmental concerns.

SummerFest: June 28, 2008

SummerFest is fun and games on a summer evening that invites the community to join our church members and friends to have a great time, meet new neighbors, and see old friends. SummerFest 2007 (held on June 30) featured two live Christian rock bands; a 52-foot long inflatable obstacle course; kids' FunZone with games, prizes, face painting, puppet theater and clowns; a team pie-eating contest; snow cones and cotton candy; hamburger and hot dog meals; visits complete with vehicles and flashing lights from the Cleveland Heights Police Department and the Cleveland Heights Fire Department; with drawings and special prizes. The event concluded with a free family-friendly movie. Proceeds from the event support the youth program summer mission trip.

Fall Kickoff - Church Picnic - Open House

Held on the first Sunday after the Labor Day weekend, the regular schedule of worship services resumes, and Sunday school classes begin a new term. Church members and friends come for worship and stay for the picnic at noon on the church lawn. The Adult Council is planning the picnic menu, and each family is asked to bring a salad or side dish to share. Dessert will be provided. Invite your friends and neighbors to tour the church, meet the pastors and staff, learn about our building expansion, meet lots of friendly folks, show the kids our Sunday school rooms, and join us on the lawn for refreshments. Come for an inspirational message, friendly people and a fun picnic!

Progressive Dinner

The annual Progressive Dinner is an opportunity to enjoy a nice meal and meet some new people as we spend an evening with other church members and friends. Everyone gathers at the church for the appetizer course, moves on to individual homes for the main course, and then gathers together again for the dessert course.
