Education Opportunities for Children
Children’s Sunday school classes are designed to give children the opportunity to meet Jesus and to nurture their personal relationship with him, and to build Christian relationships with other children and adults. Sunday school promotion to the next level is the first Sunday after Labor Day. Toddlers are promoted whenever they turn 18 months old, or at their parents’ preference. Preschool and early elementary classrooms use the Godly Play curriculum. Godly Play is an imaginative approach to introducing children to the stories of the Bible and to the symbols and liturgy of our church. In a Godly Play session, leaders welcome children to the story circle, tell the story using specific objects as a focal point, and invite the children to respond to the story in conversation and their own creative work. Each session ends with a shared “feast.”
Grow, Proclaim, Serve
Middle and upper elementary classrooms use a traditional Bible-based curriculum. As children become readers, leaders help them dig into the Bible, learn how it applies to their own lives, and how to put their faith into action in the world.
