Luke 11:1-13.

Dr. Yoost preaches on the theme, “How Persistent Are You?”  Because God’s work is difficult, we get weary and are tempted to give up.  Jesus uses two parables to urge his followers to be persistent in prayer, persistent in faith, and persistent in our spiritual lives.  He reminds us that God is persistent with us!  God never leaves us nor forsakes us.

Luke 10:38-42.

Dr. Yoost preaches on the theme, “Only One Thing.”  The story of Mary and Martha is a classic story of sibling rivalry!  Are you more like busy-bee Martha, or reflective Mary?    Martha has become distracted.  She is preoccupied with her “to do” list, and she has lost focus.  Jesus tells the women that they need only one thing:  to listen to the voice of God.

Amos 7:7-17

Dr. Yoost preaches on the theme “Don’t Shoot the Messenger!”  The prophet Amos walks into the palace of the king of Israel and uses a plumb line as a visual aid to denounce the corruption of the government.  The king orders Amos to leave and refuses to listen to his prophesy, but Amos continues to warn the nation that destruction is ahead unless the people turn and align themselves with the laws and values of Almighty God.  What is God saying to our country today through these words of Amos?  Does the plumb line reveal inconsistencies in our personal lives?

Luke 4:14-21

In this sermon, Reverend Steiger suggests that we, as individuals, as a church, and as a nation, should always seek to do what God blesses; rather than ask that God will bless whatever we do.  Rev. Steiger compares our nation’s founding documents with the call of Jesus for freedom and equality, as he explores what it means from a biblical perspective to say that our nation was founded on the concept that all people are created equal.

Luke 9:51-62

Dr. Yoost preaches on the theme “Always Looking Forward!”  Jesus reminds those who desire to follow him what it means to be a disciple.  “The Way” will not be comfortable or glamorous; God offers no deferments, and we are not to look back.  Jesus tells us always to look forward as we seek to discern what God is calling us to do.

Luke 8:26-39

Dr. Yoost preaches on the theme “Too Much Religion?”   The story of Jesus healing the demon-possessed man reminds us that Jesus can heal us and give us hope for the future as well.  While the man named Legion is given a new lease on life, the community is not happy.  After all, Jesus has upset their economy!  Do we have trouble with the implications of the Gospel?

Luke 7:36-60

Dr. Yoost preaches on the theme “Take Another Look.”  Unlike Simon. Jesus is able to see the woman who pours ointment on his feet and dries them with her hair not only for what she has been and who she is. but for who she might with God’s grace become.  She knows her need for forgiveness. and that forgiveness comes from Jesus.  Then she responds with overflowing gratitude.  We need to take another look; open our eyes to the world around us and respond as God calls us to do.

Luke 7:11-17

Jesus was just walking down the road to the village of Nain and his heart broke.  Why did it break?  What stopped him in his tracks?  What did he do about it?  Rev. Dan Bogre asks if your heart still breaks for a broken world around you?  Have you become numb to the pain and sorrow all around you because of all of the information and statistics you get on a daily basis about the tragedies of life?  Jesus mapped out a simple three step process to change the world.  Are you ready to take step one?

Romans 5:1-5.

Memorial Day Sunday & Peace with Justice Sunday.  Dr. Yoost preaches on the theme “Spring Training.” With faith, it is possible to overcome life’s handicaps.  Just as athletes “cross train” in order to increase their performance and endurance, our faith also calls us to “cross suffering,” as we follow our Lord.  “No pain, no gain.”  In spite of life’s challenges, we can persevere, knowing that God will be with us every step of the way.

Acts 2:1-21 - Pentecost

Dr. Yoost preaches on the theme “Speaking Our Language.”  The miracle of Pentecost is that everyone heard the message of the Gospel in their own native language.  Everyone was able to comprehend God’s message of forgivng love and God’ promise of new life demonstrated in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus.  Pentecost teaches us that (1)  The Gospel is for everyone; (2)  Diversity is good, and (3)  Our unity is in Christ.
