The Compassion of the Christ
Mark 5:21-43
In this sermon, Reverend Mark Steiger discusses how the life of Jesus was centered on compassion, how that compassion was contrary to the Jewish purity laws, and how the counter-cultural nature of Jesus’ compassion eventually led to his crucifixion. Reverend Steiger then discusses how twenty-first century Christians are called to lead lives based on this Christ-like compassion, seeking to fill the holes in the universe that can only be filled with the love of God.

How to Cope with Giants
I Samuel 17:4, 8-11, 32-49
Dr. Charles Yoost, Senior Pastor, preaches on the theme, “How to Cope with Giants.” Do the problems you face seem like giants, nine and a half feet tall? We need to develop a “David perspective” in order to cope with these giants: remember past victories, identify our resources, and act on our beliefs.

An Unlikely Volunteer
Isaiah 6:1-8
Peace With Justice Sunday & Commissioning of Graduates. Dr. Yoost preaching on the theme “An Unlikely Volunteer.” Isaiah had a vision of God in which he realized that he was not the person the God intended him to be. God not only forgave his shortcomings, but called him to a mission that shaped the rest of his life. The same God who called Isaiah is asking today, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” May we have the courage to say, “Here am I, send me!”

Lord of All!
Ephesians 1:15-23 & Luke 24:44-53
Dr. Yoost preaches on the theme “Lord of All!” The Ascension of Jesus is not about the vertical movement of Jesus’ body into heaven, but about the transformation that continues to be caused by his presence in the world. The early church proclaimed that Jesus is “Lord of all.” That means he rules over the physical world; he is above all earthly rulers; he is head of the church; and he is the Lord of our existence. Is he number one in your life and mine?

Go and Bear Fruit
John 15: 9-17
In this sermon, Reverend Mark Steiger reminds the 2009 Confirmation Class that the greatest gift in the world is the gift of God’s love. Through the metaphor of the vine and the branches, Jesus calls us to live in that love and to share that love with others. Christ is the vine and we are the branches; and so we are called to go and bear fruit knowing that the love of God is with us every minute of every day of our lives.

How Lucky You Are!
Psalm 23 and John 10:11-18
Dr. Yoost preaches on the theme, “How Lucky You Are!” As a shepherd sees to it that the sheep have food, water and protection from the elements and from predators, so God gives us everything we need to live full, free lives. How lucky we are! As God cares for each of us, so we are called to care for others.

I’m Still Not Sure!
Luke 24:36-48.
Dr. Yoost preaches on the theme “I’m Still Not Sure!” Like the birth of a baby, the resurrection of Jesus disrupts and changes our lives. We are witnesses to what God has done. We are called to be agents of new life in a world where evidence of the resurrection seems to be in short supply. How threatening God’s gifts of new life can be, and how wonderful!
