The Compassion of the Christ

The Compassion of the Christ

Mark 5:21-43

In this sermon, Reverend Mark Steiger discusses how the life of Jesus was centered on compassion, how that compassion was contrary to the Jewish purity laws, and how the counter-cultural nature of Jesus’ compassion eventually led to his crucifixion. Reverend Steiger then discusses how twenty-first century Christians are called to lead lives based on this Christ-like compassion, seeking to fill the holes in the universe that can only be filled with the love of God.

Seeds and Kingdoms

Seeds and Kingdoms

Mark 4:26-32.

Dr. Charles Yoost preaches on the theme, “Seeds and Kingdoms.” Jesus uses the image of the gardener and the planting of seeds to illustrate the miracle of growth. From small beginnings, God can cause magnificent growth. Our job is to plant the seeds, and to trust God for growth.

An Unlikely Volunteer

An Unlikely Volunteer

Isaiah 6:1-8

Peace With Justice Sunday & Commissioning of Graduates. Dr. Yoost preaching on the theme “An Unlikely Volunteer.” Isaiah had a vision of God in which he realized that he was not the person the God intended him to be. God not only forgave his shortcomings, but called him to a mission that shaped the rest of his life. The same God who called Isaiah is asking today, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” May we have the courage to say, “Here am I, send me!”
