The God Nobody Knows

Psalm 8, Acts 17:21-31, John 1:1-18

Dr. Yoost begins a two-part series on science and religion. 2009 marks the 400th anniversary of Galileo’s amazing discovery that the earth is not the center of the universe. He confirmed the earlier work of Copernicus that the earth revolves around the sun. Increasing numbers in our culture do not know God, but God can be known. The world does not revolve around us! God intends that our lives revolve around the S-O-N, Jesus Christ.

Flesh and Blood

John 6:56-69

This sermon concludes the Summer Series – Got Bread! which focuses on Christ as the bread of the world. Here Reverend Steiger tells us that, through the sacrament of communion, we are not only made one with Christ but one with each other. We are challenged to see the Christ in all people, for all people are our “Flesh and Blood.” We are further challenged to see all our relationships as holy. We are called to share God’s love, peace and joy with whom we meet.

You Are What You Eat

You Are What You Eat

John 6:51-58

The central tenet of the Christian faith is packed into two statements: 1) Jesus is the bread of life come down from heaven; and 2) that bread is His flesh. In this sermon, Reverend Steiger discusses the meaning of these two statements for the twenty-first century Christian. He further explores how the contemporary Christian receives eternal life by partaking of the body and blood of Christ.

Man, Am I Hungry

Man, Am I Hungry

John 6:35, 41-51

Psalm 23:5 says that our cups runneth over. Rev. Dan ask, “Does you life runneth over or are you just praying for just a little trickle?” In today’s Scripture from John we hear that Jesus is the bread of life yet the Jews were hungering for something else. Do you see Jesus as the bread of life or are you still looking everywhere else in the world to fill all of your empty spaces? Maybe that is why your cup does not runneth over yet. What is it that you are hungering and thirsting for in your life?

And For My Next Trick….

And For My Next Trick…

John 6:24-35

Rev. Dan Bogre asks, “Why are you looking for Jesus?” Are you just looking for the next neat trick? Will he walk on water? Will he heal the sick? Will he cast out demons? Will he make the blind see? In today’s Scripture we see that people were just seeking out Jesus for a piece of bread that only fills the stomach. Jesus let them know that he came to offer more than just pieces of bread for the belly. He came into the world to be the bread of life. Are you just settling for a small piece of what Jesus has to offer or are you ready to take the whole loaf?
