Stumble In or Stumble Out

Mark 9:38-50

Jesus was upset when his disciples became stumbling blocks to people trying to follow Christ. So many times I am concerned with the people who become stumbling blocks to me and my journey of faith. This Sunday Rev. Dan Bogre asks the question, “When have I been a stumbling block to someone else and their faith journey?” It is a question that many of us do not want to ask because it makes us feel uncomfortable. This week we wrestle with the way that we may have been stumbling blocks to others by the way we live or don’t live out our faith in the world. Have fun with it.

Missing the Point!

Mark 9:30-37

Dr. Yoost preaches on the topic, “Missing the Point!” Jesus uses a visual aid to make his point. He picks up a child and says that we need to focus on the trust that children display, rather than worrying about “who is the greatest.” Rather than following our dreams, as Christians we are called to seek God’s plan for our world, and then discover how we might serve God in fulfilling God’s purposes.

Back to Basics

Mark 8:27-38

Dr. Yoost preaches on “Back to Basics.” Who is Jesus? The answer to that question will determine how we live our lives from day to day. Jesus calls us to take up our cross; to give ourselves in acts of costly service and devotion; to make a difference in the world today.

Always Evolving!

Genesis 1:1-4, 26-27, Psalm 104 & John 3:1-17

The second of Dr. Yoost’s two part series on science and religion. On the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin, what is the relation of his theory of evolution by natural selection to the Christian faith? Dr. Yoost proposes that the two major ideas upon which the theory of rests: (1) that all of life is related, and (2) that species change over time, are quite compatible with orthodox Christian thinking.
