God Bless You, Mrs. Degrafinried!

John 14:23-27

Mother’s Day - Dr. Yoost preaches on the theme, “God Bless You, Mrs. Degrafinried!”  Love is the quality that distingushes Jesus’ followers from the rest of the world, as illustrated by the story of Louise Degrafinried, a 73 year old grandmother.  May her courage and faith inspire all of us to practice the love of Jesus in every aspect of our lives!

A Loving Invitation

John 21:9-19
Jesus issues a three-fold commission to Peter and to each of us: love me; feed my sheep; and, follow me.  In this sermon, Reverend Mark Steiger explores the transition from believing in Jesus to knowing Jesus personally, the transition from being a member of a church to becoming a disciple of Jesus Christ.  Reverend Steiger asks, “Will you accept the invitation to have breakfast with God?”

I Love to Tell the Story!

Acts 5:27-32 & John 20:19-31.

Dr. Charles Yoost preaches on the theme, “I Love to Tell the Story. ” The greatest “proof” of the Resurrection of Jesus was the changed lives of the disciples.  How does the resurrection affect our lives today?  How has Easter changed us?  Three youth of the congregation (Mark Chapman, Gina Evangelista & Melanie Wheelr) share their personal testimonies.  Their witness challenges us to tell our stories of Jesus and his love.

The Victory is Ours!

Luke 24:1-12 and I Corinthians 15:51-57.

Dr. Charles Yoost, Senior Pastor, preaches on the theme, “The Victory Is Ours!” The Easter victory of Jesus brings hope that we, too, can have a new life with Christ when we die.  But Easter means more than that!  Easter is primarily not about the next life, but about this one.  The Easter message is that we can be transformed and live a new life, here and now, today.    Click here to see the video that was shown at 9:30 am on Easter Sunday.

If the Stones Shout Out!

Psalm 118:14-29 & Luke 19:28-40

Dr. Charles Yoost preaches on the topic, “If the Stones Shout Out!”  Palm Sunday is one of the most “political” Sundays of the Christian year, as Jesus asks, “Who are you following? Who is in charge here?”  The Pharisees, threatened by the cheering crowds proclaiming Jesus as “king,” tell Jesus, “Order your disciples to stop!”  Jesus replies, “If they were silent, the stones would shout out!”  All creation tells of the glory of God.  As followers of Jesus, we may threaten the status quo, but we cannot keep silent!  We must proclaim the love of God in word and deed.

God Will Make A Way!

Isaiah 43:16-21 & Psalm 126.

Dr. Yoost’s reflects on  ”God Will Make a Way!”   By remembering God’s mighty acts in the past, we can be confident that God will make a way for us as we look toward the future.  Reflecting on Philippians 3:4-14 & John 12:1-8, Dr. Yoost asks, “What will God to Next?”   Paul comes to realize that his credentials are not what is important to God.  As he faces the future, he must rely on God’s grace alone.  Mary in all humility, washes the feet of Jesus with costly perfume and dries them with her hair.  Through her actions, Jesus opens the door for Mary to a new life.  Paul becomes humble, and Mary becomes confident.  God is always doing a new thing in our midst.  Let us open our hearts and allow God to make a way for us!

Upward

II Corinthians 5:16-21

Paul says in 2 Corinthians 5 that we are new creations in Christ.  He says that the old life is gone and we are created new.  Rev. Dan Bogre asks, “Are you new in Christ?  Has the person that God created in you come alive or is it buried deep down inside you?”  This week’s sermon is about finding a way to let that person out.  In our church we have watched that happen for the children in our Upward Basketball Program.  Those kids are new creations in Christ through basketball.  Are you ready to move Upward?

Another Chance!

Psalm 63:1-8 & Luke 13:1-9

Dr. Yoost preaches on the theme, “Another Chance!”  When disaster strikes, whether an earthquake in Haiti, or some misfortune in our personal lives, we often assume that these happenings are punishment for sin.  Jesus tells us that these random acts are not necessarily God’s punishment for our bad deeds.  However God has expectations of us, and God is disappointed with our sinful behavior.  The parable of the fig tree reminds us that there is judgment, but that God is also gracious, and willing to give us another chance to repent and change our ways.
